National Instruments 779501-01 PXI Remote Control Module
An identifying part number for the National Instruments PXI-8360, the 779501-01 PXI Remote Control Module has been designed to enable smooth control of PXI and CompactPCI systems from a PC via a transparent MXI-Express interface. Installed within a PXI chassis, this remote-control module connects with an installed PCI-8360 through a copper x1 MXI-Express cable using a PCI Express-to-PCI bridge. Effective control and communication between the host PC and the PXI system are made possible by this configuration.
The 779501-01 module allows devices installed in PXI, PXI Express, VXI, or CompactRIO chassis to be controlled via a cabled PCI Express x1 interface. It offers a flexible way to integrate workstations, laptops, desktop computers, and any host controller that has a PCI, PCI Express, or ExpressCard port. This module allows users to use a variety of host adapters to control PXI/PXI Express/CompactPCI/CompactPCI Express, CompactRIO, or VXI backplanes. This adaptability improves convenience and system configuration possibilities by enabling the physical separation of the automation or measurement device from the host PC.
The 779501-01 module is based on advanced PCI Express technology. To enable control of a PXI or PXI Express chassis from a PC, it may use a combination of PCI Express switches or PCI Express-to-PCI bridges. Since the bridge architecture is transparent to device drivers, connected chassis with CompactPCI level devices don't require any extra software to support them. This transparency improves system compatibility and streamlines integration. With dimensions of 10.0 x 16.0 cm (3.9 x 6.3 in.) and a weight of roughly 0.17 kg (0.37 lb), the 779501-01 module is small and light. It is completely compatible with the PXI-5 Express Hardware Specification, Revision 1.0, and only needs one PXI Express system slot. A maximum cable length of 7 meters is supported by the module, giving system configuration plenty of flexibility.
