National Instruments 779087-02 Arbitrary Waveform Generator

The National Instruments 779087-02 (PXI-5422) is a high-resolution arbitrary waveform generator designed for automated test systems and applications that require precise signal generation. The module features a 16-bit DAC resolution, a maximum update rate of 200 MS/s, and an analog output bandwidth of 80 MHz. These capabilities allow the PXI-5422 to generate standard waveforms, including sine and square waves, as well as complex user-defined arbitrary waveforms. With 32 MB of onboard waveform memory, the module can store and generate extended waveform patterns without continuously relying on the host computer.

The 779087-02 provides flexible output configuration for different test setups. Its output impedance can be selected through software between 50 Ω and 75 Ω. The main output path provides a voltage range from 12.00 V pk-pk down to 5.64 mV pk-pk when driving a 50 Ω load, allowing the module to accommodate both relatively high-level signals and low-amplitude stimulus requirements. These output capabilities make the PXI-5422 suitable for a wide range of signal-generation and device-characterization applications.

The generator is well suited to applications in communications, aerospace, defense, semiconductor testing, and general-purpose automated test. Its PXI architecture allows it to operate as part of a larger modular test system, where it can be synchronized with other PXI instrumentation to coordinate signal generation and measurement. External timing and triggering can be incorporated through the PXI system, allowing the module to participate in synchronized multi-instrument test configurations.

With its combination of 16-bit resolution, 200 MS/s update rate, 80 MHz output bandwidth, onboard waveform memory, and selectable output impedance, the National Instruments 779087-02 provides a flexible signal-generation solution for applications requiring accurate and repeatable analog stimulus.
