National Instruments 779087-03 Arbitrary Waveform Generator
The National Instruments 779087-03 (PXI-5422) is a single-channel PXI arbitrary waveform generator designed for applications that require accurate and repeatable analog signal generation. It provides one analog output through an SMB connector and uses a 16-bit DAC to produce precise waveforms across its specified output range. The module is well suited for applications such as functional testing, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, communications testing, and other automated test systems where consistent signal generation is essential.
The 779087-03 provides two output paths to accommodate different signal requirements. The main output path offers a range from 12 V pk-pk down to 5.64 mV pk-pk, while the direct output path provides a range from 1.000 V to 0.707 V pk-pk. The output impedance can be selected between 50 Ω and 75 Ω to match the requirements of the connected equipment and test configuration. The output is DC-coupled, allowing both AC and DC components to be included in generated waveforms.
For applications requiring additional signal conditioning, the PXI-5422 features a selectable 7-pole elliptical filter that can be used to reduce unwanted image frequencies from the output waveform. The module also incorporates internal overload protection to help protect the output circuitry under specified overload conditions. Waveform summing further allows multiple waveform components to be combined into a single output, providing additional flexibility for complex signal-generation requirements.
The 779087-03 offers several timing and synchronization options for integration into automated and multi-instrument test systems. Internal clocking options include Divide-by-N, DDS High Resolution, and DDS Low Resolution modes. External synchronization can be provided through the front-panel CLK IN and DDC CLK IN connections, as well as the PXI Star Trigger and PXI Trigger lines on the backplane. These timing and synchronization capabilities allow the PXI-5422 to coordinate waveform generation with other PXI instruments for precisely timed test sequences.
With its 16-bit DAC, flexible output paths, selectable impedance, signal filtering, waveform-summing capability, and multiple timing options, the National Instruments 779087-03 provides a versatile solution for precision analog stimulus generation in automated test and measurement systems.
