The 778303-01 PXI Chassis offers PXI and CompactPCI (PICMG 2.0 R 3.0) module compatibility. It features 18 3U-sized slots and provides 600 Watts of usable power to PXI modules. The chassis supports universal AC input with auto-voltage and auto-frequency ranging. In case of overcurrent, the chassis features a push-reset circuit breaker for overcurrent protection. The chassis also has a modular power supply unit installed with power status and inhibition via a rear panel connector. For internal cooling, the 778303-01 PXI Chassis features a fan with selectable speed for maximum cooling or quiet operation.
The PXI-specific signals are located on P2 and are found on only the signals that are reserved or not used in the CompactPCI 64-bit specification. Therefore, all modules that meet the requirements of the CompactPCI 64-bit specification will function in the 778303-01 PXI Chassis. The 778303-01 PXI Chassis has three PCI bus segments linked via two 64-bit PCI-to-PCI bridges. The PCI bus segment divisions are represented on the front of the chassis by vertical bars.
The PXI backplane’s local bus is a daisy-chained bus that connects each peripheral slot with its adjacent peripheral slots to the left and right. For example, a given peripheral slot’s right local bus connects to the adjacent slot’s left local bus, and so on. Each local bus is 13 lines wide and can pass analog signals between cards or provide a high-speed side-band communication path that does not affect the PXI bandwidth.
