National Instruments 779730-01 PXI Chassis

National Instruments designed the 779730-01, an 18-slot PXI Express chassis, as a member of the PXIe-1065 series. With a high-bandwidth backplane, this chassis provides a high-performance platform for a range of test and measurement applications. Its high-output power supply and sturdy structural design ensure maximum usability in a variety of industrial environments. With nine PXI peripheral slots, four hybrid slots that can accommodate PXI and PXI Express modules, and nine PXI Express slots specifically designed for PXI modules, this chassis offers a flexible way to integrate various kinds of instrumentation modules.

Because of its modular design, it is more maintainable, has a shorter mean time to repair (MTTR), and is generally more economical. Each PXI Express slot provides up to 1 GB/s (single direction) of dedicated bandwidth and PCIe x4 connectivity, enabling high performance to suit demanding instrumentation requirements. The chassis's 30 W per slot cooling capacity allows it to meet increasing cooling requirements and ensures effective performance even under high loads.

In data acquisition and control applications, internal reference clocks with minimal jitter and stability improve precision and accuracy. The PXIe System Timing Slot on the 779730-01 allows for tight synchronization across different chassis, allowing for a seamless integration into multi-chassis systems. Additional conveniences for synchronization activities include switchless CLK10 routing and rear CLK10 I/O ports. The 779730-01 PXI Chassis supports a broad variety of AC input voltages (100 to 240 VAC) and frequencies (50/60 Hz) in terms of power input.

It has a 12 A circuit breaker for over-current protection and a high efficiency (70% usual). A front-panel power switch and a rear-panel D-SUB 9-pin connector with a power mode switch are two alternatives for power control. Reliable functioning is ensured by cooling mechanisms, even in demanding conditions. The chassis is kept at ideal temperatures by forced air circulation through three 165 cfm fans, and the power supply unit is cooled by integrated fans. The chassis's bottom is where the module cooling intake is located, while the top, sides, and bottom are where the exhaust exits. In a similar vein, the intake and exhaust of the power supply cooling system are positioned to improve thermal management.
