National Instruments 782946-01 PXI Express DC Chassis

The National Instruments 782946-01 (or PXIe-1082DC) is a reliable PXI Express DC chassis designed to meet the needs of high-performance test and measurement applications. It offers a high-bandwidth backplane that enables seamless integration of PXI Express modules across all slot. It also accommodates standard PXI hybrid-compatible modules in up to four slots. This chassis supports a DC input voltage range of 11 to 32 V.

Eight slots total—three for PXI Express modules, four hybrid slots, and a system timing slot—are included on the NI 782946-01 chassis. It has an 8 GB/s maximum system bandwidth. The chassis features a slot cooling capacity of 38 W that is facilitated by a forced air circulation system with dual 110 cfm fans. This chassis is equipped with a Voltage-Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO) for the onboard clock. External clocking is also supported. The backplane incorporates system synchronization clocks that includes a 10 MHz system reference clock (PXI_CLK10) and a 100 MHz system reference clock (PXIe_CLK100), with maximum slot-to-slot skews of 500 ps and 100 ps respectively. The 782946-01 chassis supports PXI Star Trigger and PXI Differential Star Triggers.

The 782946-01 offers comprehensive DC output options with a maximum total usable power of 315 W. The chassis includes over-current protection through a 50 A circuit breaker and offers line regulation within ±0.2% for 3.3 V and ±0.1% for both 5 V and ±12 V. Load regulation remains under 5% across all output voltages along with maximum ripple and noise values of 50 mVpp for +3.3 V, +5 V, and -12 V, and 120 mVpp for +12 V. The unit supports an operational temperature range from 0 °C to 55 °C and can be stored at temperatures between -40 °C and 71 °C. The chassis meets safety compliance standards that include IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1, and complies with EMC standards such as EN 61326 and FCC Part 15B.

The mechanical design of the NI 782946-01 module features a 3U-sized backplane with robust materials like sheet aluminum and cold rolled steel, finished with conductive clear Iridite and clear chromate zinc plating. The overall dimensions of the module are: Height 177.1 mm (6.97 in.), Width 271.4 mm (10.68 in.), and Depth 396.5 mm (15.61 in.). The unit weighs 8.8 kg (19.4 lbs.).
