National Instruments 780587-48 PXI RF Multiplexer Switch Module

The National Instruments 780587-48 (or PXIe-2748) is a 16x1 PXI RF Multiplexer Switch Module. This unit is designed for high-frequency signal switching in production test applications. It supports switching RF signals up to 3 GHz that makes it ideal for systems requiring multiple RF signal management. This 780587-48 multiplexer switch module features 16 x channels and the maximum switching voltage of the unit is 30 V. The unit requires maximum switching current of 0.5 A per channel. The module’s initial typical DC path resistance is less than 1 Ω that increases to ≥2 Ω at end-of-life. 

The NI 780587-48 offers a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω nominal. Its insertion loss is 1.5 dB for frequencies up to 1 GHz and 3 dB for frequencies up to 2.7 GHz. The voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) remains low, with values of 1.4 up to 1 GHz, 1.6 up to 2.7 GHz, and 1.8 up to 3 GHz. The module provides typical isolation of over 60 dB for frequencies up to 1 GHz and over 40 dB for frequencies up to 2.7 GHz. This multiplexer switch unit employs electromechanical, latching relays with a maximum operate time of 10 ms and an expected mechanical relay life of 1 × 107 cycles. The module has 17 x gold-plated MCX jack connectors to maintain high signal integrity. It requires a PXI Express power of 3.96 W at 3.3 V and 0.2 W at 12 V. Its physical dimensions are 21.6 cm × 2.0 cm × 13.0 cm and it weighs 330 g.

Environmental specifications include an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and a storage temperature range of -40 °C to 70 °C. The relative humidity range of the unit is 5% to 85% non-condensing. It is designed for indoor use along with a maximum altitude of 2,000 m.  The NI 780587-48 complies with multiple electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and safety standards such as EN 61326-1, EN 55011, FCC 47 CFR Part 15B, and IEC 61010-1.
