National Instruments 778572-21 DPST PXI Relay Module
The National Instruments 778572-21 is an industry-leading PXI-2521 switch module. This PXI switch module features 40 individual, double-pole, single-throw, non-latchable armature-type relays. Each relay has very low resistance on-state and minimal thermal offset, which allows precise measurement at low levels. The dual pole configuration of the relays greatly simplifies the task of two-wire switching by eliminating the need for multiple wires, therefore reducing the amount of cabling required in your test rack. The 778572-21 is designed as a single-slot 3U PXI format. The module can handle up to 150Vdc and 1A of current per channel, making it a robust yet space-saving solution for routing power and/or signal lines within automated test equipment (ATE) applications and industrial control.
The 778572-21 also contains a 78-pin D-sub connector located on the front panel that offers easy and high-density access to all forty DPST channels. The onboard nonvolatile memory keeps track of each time a relay is closed and will retain the total number of times a relay was closed, even after a power cycle, allowing engineers to accurately monitor relay lifetimes. With the included NI-SWITCH driver and drivers for both LabVIEW and C API available, engineers can create complex switch timing patterns based solely on software commands or utilize handshakes to trigger switch operations without requiring additional hardware. This results in streamlined system configurations when integrated into PXI-based test and measurement systems.
Engineers have utilized the 778572-21 in numerous applications, including industrial automation and validation. Engineers often use it to directly control many types of devices such as resistive heaters, indicator lamps, cooling fans, and solenoids. Within automated test equipment, the 778572-21's DPST design minimizes the need for relays required for two-wire loads. Additionally, the ability to configure using LabVIEW or NI-MAX enables engineers to monitor relay lifetimes, set the state of switches programmatically, and allow them to incorporate deterministic testing sequences within their tests without diminishing channel density or performance. Because of its nonlatching characteristics, engineers can ensure consistent power-off states during industrial control operation.
