National Instruments 779176-02 PXI Waveform Generator
The National Instruments 779176-02 (PXI-5412) is a one-channel arbitrary waveform generator designed for automated test and measurement systems. The module occupies a single 3U PXI slot and includes 32 MB of onboard waveform memory, allowing longer waveforms to be stored locally rather than continuously streamed from the host controller.
The PXI-5412 uses a 14-bit digital-to-analog converter with a native sampling rate of 100 MS/s and digital interpolation that increases the effective sampling rate to up to 400 MS/s. The module provides up to 20 MHz of signal bandwidth and supports output amplitudes from 5.64 mVpp to 12 Vpp when driving a 50 Ω load.
Digital interpolation can improve waveform quality by moving reconstruction images farther from the desired signal and reducing the filtering requirements at the output. For applications involving sharp transitions, such as pulses and square waves, interpolation and filtering can be disabled to maintain fast rise and fall times.
The 779176-02 also provides waveform sequencing and triggering functions for automated testing and mixed-signal applications. Waveforms can be configured for single, continuous, burst, or stepped operation and can be controlled using hardware or software triggers. Sequences can also be repeated for a specified period or advanced through a series of programmed waveforms.
The module supports synchronization with other PXI instruments, making it suitable for applications that require coordinated waveform generation across multiple devices. Typical applications include production testing, communications testing, circuit validation, and mixed-signal test systems.
