National Instruments 779176-03 PXI Waveform Generator
The National Instruments 779176-03 (PXI-5412) is a one-channel arbitrary waveform generator designed for automated test and measurement systems. The module uses a compact single-slot 3U PXI form factor and provides 14-bit resolution with a standard sample rate of 100 MS/s. It includes up to 256 MB of onboard memory, allowing complex waveforms and sequences to be stored locally for repeated playback without continually transferring data from the host controller.
The PXI-5412 uses digital interpolation to increase the effective sample rate to up to 400 MS/s. Interpolation moves reconstruction images to higher frequencies, allowing the output filtering to use a higher cutoff frequency with less passband ripple and phase distortion. This is useful when generating smooth waveforms such as sine waves. For applications that require fast transitions, such as square waves and pulses, interpolation and filtering can be disabled to preserve rise and fall times and reduce pulse distortion.
The module provides 20 MHz of signal bandwidth and an output amplitude range of 5.64 mVpp to 12 Vpp when driving a 50 Ω load. Selectable 50 Ω and 75 Ω output impedance provides additional flexibility for different test configurations.
Waveform sequencing can be controlled using programmed timing or hardware and software triggers. The available sequence modes include single-shot, continuous, burst, and stepped operation. The 779176-03 can also be synchronized with other PXI instruments, allowing multiple waveform generators and measurement modules to operate together in coordinated or phase-related test configurations.
The 779176-03 is suitable for applications including automated test, electronics validation, communications and RF testing, and mixed-signal design verification where programmable waveform generation and synchronized operation are required.
