National Instruments 779146-01 Serial Interface Device

Part Number 779146-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments PCI 8433/4 Serial Interface Device. This device is mainly used in industrial and commercial settings where there is a need for a reliable serial connection that can also span longer distances.

The 779146-01 is a 4-port device that supports RS-422 and RS-485 protocols and has baud rates ranging from 2 baud/s to a maximum rate of 3 Mbps. The operating rated voltage for the RS-485 standard ranges from -7 V to +12 V. Likewise, the size of the featured FIFO buffer is 128 bytes.

The 779146-01 features both port-to-port and port-to-host isolation. Both the port-to-port and port-to-host isolation voltage is 60 VDC (CAT I) continuous. As for the power requirement, the module typically draws 785 mA from the PCI channel at +5 VDC, which can reach up to a maximum of 1.2 A. The module features a 10-position modular jack as an I/O connector and comes with cables to convert it to DB-9 male connectors.

The 779146-01 measures 4.2 × 6.9 inches in physical dimensions and weighs 106 g. The module is designed for indoor use only and has an operating temperature range of 0° to 55°C and a relative humidity range of 10% to 90%. On the other hand, it can be stored at a range of -20°C to 70°C at a relative humidity of 5% to 95%. Likewise, the maximum altitude where the module can be operated properly is 2000m. Furthermore, the maximum cable length for the RS485 is 30 m (in case of EMC/surge limitation but can reach up to 1.2 km without the limitation). In addition, according to the human body model, the data line ESD protection for the module is ±15 kV.

The 779146-01 meets the safety standards of IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1 as electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use. Likewise, it also meets the standards 2006/95/EC and 2004/108/EC under CE compliance. Furthermore, it also meets EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards like EN 61326 (IEC 61326), EN 55011 (CISPR 11), etc.
