National Instruments PXI-8212 GPIB and Ethernet Interface

The National Instruments PXI-8212 (Part Number: 778226-01) is a low cost, high-performance IEEE 488 interface for CompactPCI and PXI based systems. This model brings a standard Fast Ethernet interface in a 1-slot PXI module; thus, it saves slots in a PXI system. The PXI-8212 comes equipped with the NI TNT4882C ASIC that performs the basic EEE 488, Controller, Talker, and Listener functions as required by the IEEE 488.2.  To decouple GPIB transfers from PCI transfers, the TNT4882C ASIC comes with FIFO buffers and has a GPIB monitor port for bus-level diagnostics. Moreover, it also increases the maximum data transfer rates to 8 Mbytes/s by utilizing National Instruments high speed GPIB protocol HS488.

This GPIB IEEE 488 Interface fully complies with PXI Specifications, as well as CompactPCI, PICMG 2.0, and IEEE 488.1 and 488.2 specifications. The Ethernet Interface is fully compatible with 10BaseT and 100BaseTX Ethernet standards and built in accordance with EEE 803.2u Fast Ethernet Specifications. While operating in typical conditions, the PXI-8212 requires 2-ampere maximum (at +5 VDC) and consumes 10 Watts of power.

The IEEE 488 I/O connector included in this model is a standard 24-bit connector, while the External Ethernet connector incorporated is a standard RJ-45. As far as its physical characteristics are concerned, the National Instruments PXI-8212 is a 3U size module, which weighs around 140 g. The dimensions are 16.0 by 10.0 cm.  This GPIB interface is Plug and Play enabled, entirely software configurable, and can easily be installed by users.

PXI-8212 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
