National Instruments VXI-MXI-2/B VXIbus Extender

The VXI-MXI-2/B is a reliable VXIbus Extender. The designer of the NI VXI-MXI-2/B is National Instruments. The VXI-MXI-2/B is a B-size extender with extended class mainframe. The function of the VXI-MXI-2/B is to expand the VXIbus architecture in those application where this architecture is needed to be extended away from VXIbus mainframe. The VXI-MXI-2/B uses MXI-2 to extend the VXIbus architecture. The MXI-2 is the 2nd generation of the MXIbus. A VXIbus mainframe can be interfaced with several MXIbus devices via the NI VXI-MXI-2/B. The compatible devices for interface with the VXIbus mainframe include MXIbus Instruments, PCs with MXIbus, and other VXIbus mainframes.

This VXIbus Extender works on the technique of address mapping to interface VXIbus system bus with the MXIbus. The National Instruments VXI-MXI-2/B is a register-based VXIbus module. The VXI-MXI-2/B extender can be housed in any VXIbus slot that is size B. The NI VXI-MXI-2/B transforms VXIbus bus cycles into MXIbus bus cycles. The VXIbus bus cycles that the VXIbus Extender can convert include A16, A24, A32, D08, D16, D32, and D64.The VXI-MXI-2/B features four address windows through which mapping is done into or out of the mainframe of the VXIbus. Three of these windows are associated with three address spaces of the VMEbus. The fourth window is dedicated for the mapping of the configuration space of the VXIbus.

This VXIbus Extender is a multifeatured module that makes it important in several applications. The NI VXI-MXI-2/B can resolve deadlock conditions since it supports the VME RETRY signal. The National Instruments VXI-MXI-2/B is equipped with two independent DMA controllers through which it transfers data.

VXI-MXI-2/B Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the VXIbus Extender will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
