Keysight/Agilent E1406A VXI GPIB Command Module
The Keysight E1406A is a C-size, single-slot, VXI message-based commander module for industrial test systems. It provides Slot 0 and resource manager functions for complete system control within a standard VXIbus environment. It supports transparent communication with any manufacturer's message-based VXI instrument modules without compatibility concerns.
The command module integrates interfaces, including GP-IB, RS-232, Slot 0, and Resource Manager functions. These interfaces allow for flexible and reliable integration across a broad range of VXI-based test systems. The GP-IB interface conforms to the IEEE-488 standard, enabling communication with a wide range of external instruments. The RS-232 connectivity extends the module's compatibility to serial-based peripheral devices within a broader measurement infrastructure.
The E1406A VXI GPIB Command Module also includes a dedicated MXIbus resource manager for VXIbus extensions across multi-mainframe environments. This enables consistent high throughput performance to be maintained across systems with multiple VXI mainframe configurations. The module supports synchronization of the VXI backplane 10 MHz clock to an external TTL signal. This capability enhances timing precision across multi-device systems requiring accurate and reliable synchronization in test environments.
The module is equipped with FLASH memory that supports downloadable drivers for register-based VXI instrument devices. This allows engineers to program register-based instruments using the high-level SCPI programming language directly. The module translates SCPI commands for register-based instruments, making them programmable like message-based devices. This eliminates programming complexity and creates a unified and consistent approach across different VXI instrument types.
The memory configuration in the E1406A Command Module includes up to 1.75 MB of FLASH memory for driver storage. The volatile RAM is rated at 256 KB, while non-volatile RAM extends from 512 KB up to 2 MB. The shared memory supports a maximum of 512 KB for inter-device data exchange within the VXI chassis. The nonvolatile memory is NiCad battery-backed with a minimum lifetime of 10 months at a 512 KB configuration. The real-time clock in the module provides 1.0-second resolution with a clock accuracy of 0.005% elapsed time.
