The NI 776336-00 is a part number for the SC-2060 8-channel optical isolation digital input board designed to accurately acquire digital signals free from electrical noise in a variety of harsh industrial and laboratory environments. A key advantage of the NI 776336-00 is its ability to provide physical separation (optical isolation) between the input circuitry of the board and the host computer, providing protection against common problems such as ground loops, transient voltages, and surges due to lightning strikes, all of which are found on factory floors and in industrial process control environments. The 776336-00 is designed specifically for applications requiring both reliable digital signal conditioning and safety features to prevent damage to delicate measuring equipment.
Each NI 776336-00 is shipped as a self-contained unit consisting of the NI SC-2060 signal conditioning board and a 0.2 m long 26-conductor ribbon cable. The ribbon cable provides direct connection to an NI SC-205x series cable adapter board. The NI SC-205x series boards then connect to NI DAQ hardware using standard DAQ I/O connectors. The 0.2m ribbon cable provides the shortest possible path between the conditioning stage and the acquisition hardware, thereby minimising the opportunity for noise to occur during the signal transmission process. In addition, since all components required to build a scalable measurement system are part of the NI SC-20xx family, it is now easier than ever for engineers to design and implement their own modular measurement systems without having to create custom cables.
Within the manufacturing and scientific communities, the NI 776336-00 has been applied in numerous areas, including industrial automation, test and measurement, and process monitoring. In addition to many other uses, examples of how the Digital Input Board may be used include reading digital output from proximity sensors, reading state changes of relays and switches, reading outputs from programmable controllers, and reading state changes from TTL/OC digital logic sources that have operating voltages outside those allowed by standard NI DAQ cards. As stated previously, one primary benefit of using the NI 776336-00 is that it will allow designers to extend their usage capabilities of their existing NI DAQ systems while protecting the investment from potentially damaging field-level electrical shock hazards.
