National Instruments SCXI-1317 Terminal Block

The SCXI-1317 (Part Number: 777687-17) is a Front-Mounting Terminal Block created for use with the SCXI-1521 and SCXI-1521B quarter-bridge Strain Gage Input Modules. The SCXI 1317 has 24 channels; this Terminal Block offers three screw terminals for every quarter-bridge strain gage channel. These channels include: excitation+, analog in, and quarter-bridge. The NI SCXI-1317 is shielded to ensure precise signal connections and is autodetectable via software.

The following types of hardware are required to operate the SCXI-1317: the SCXI-1521 or SCXI-1521B module, an SCXI or PXI/SCXI combination chassis, and the necessary cabling, cable adapter, and quarter-bridge strain gauges as needed for the user’s specific application. When making quarter-bridge signal connections with a 2- or 3-wire strain gauge if the transducer is shielded, then the user can link the shield to the GND link on the SCXI 1317.

To link the signal to the NI SCXI-1317 Terminal Block, the user first must unscrew the screws on the top cover and take off the top cover. They can then loosen the strain-relief screws and take off the strain-relief bar. Afterwards, strip the insulation of the signal wire (no more than 0.28 inches). Next, the user must run the signal wires through the strain-relief opening. If it is required, the user can also add insulation or padding. The last step is to place the stripped end of the signal wires completely into the terminal. The user should ensure that there is not any bare wire sticking out past the screw terminal because exposed wire increases the chance of a short circuit and therefore circuit failure.

SCXI-1317 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Terminal Block will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
