National Instruments 779553-50 Interface Device

The National Instruments 779553-50 is an OEM, board-level version of the USB-8451 interface designed for controlling I²C, SMBus, and SPI devices from a computer. It connects to a host through USB 2.0 and provides eight 3.3 V digital I/O lines for additional control and monitoring functions. The board also provides +5 V and ground connections for powering external circuitry, eliminating the need for a separate power source in some applications. It supports I²C clock rates up to 250 kHz and SPI clock speeds up to 12 MHz, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 45°C (-40°F to 113°F).

The 779553-50 can be used to communicate with a wide range of devices, including EEPROMs, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, microcontrollers, temperature sensors, accelerometers, real-time clocks, oscillators, and LCD controllers. Its USB connection allows the board to be positioned close to the device under test, helping to keep I²C and SPI connections short and reducing potential signal integrity issues. This makes it useful for memory programming, embedded-system development, debugging, automated test equipment, production fixtures, and product validation.

The interface includes software support for developing and controlling I²C and SPI transactions, including LabVIEW APIs for creating customized communication sequences. The eight digital I/O lines can also be used for functions such as setting device address inputs, controlling indicators, or providing external control signals.
