The NI AT-232/4 Serial Interface can be used as a plug-in card which connects any computer to other serial devices. Each port connects the host equipment to the DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) or DCE (Data Communication Equipment) via registered jacks (RJ45) or modular phone jacks (10-position). The AT-232/4 is compatible with Windows 2000/9x. The AT-232/4 also interrupts sharing between the ports. This serial interface offers an optimum current range of 340 mA to 450 mA at 5V.

To certify error-free decoding of the data at the receiver’s side, the AT-232/4 includes RTS/CTS hardware-handshake lines.
