Pickering 40-480-221 Automotive Switch Simulator
The Pickering 40-480-221 is a 32-channel PXI module designed to simulate automotive switches under fault conditions, such as contamination (i.e., dirty contacts, current leakage). Because the 40-480-221 can help rigorously test automotive controllers and I/O devices under plausible adverse real-world conditions, you can be assured that automotive systems will correctly operate when they encounter contamination effects.
The module can support 12V and 24V automotive applications and was designed with a protection circuit to eliminate the risk of an installation fault or a UUT failure damaging both the 40-480-221 and the unit under test (UUT). Pickering also made excellent use of the ruthenium-sputtered reed relays, which have a long operational life and can have a high speed of operation (less than 0.5 ms switching speed) and stable contact resistance.
For each of the 32 channels, the activation criteria and simulated fault condition scenarios can be either of the following: simulate open conditions, 47Ω resistance, or a 51kΩ current leak to earth or supply voltage. The 40-480-221 is designed to have PolySwitch protectors associated with each channel. This limits the amount of fault current that can go through the sample circuit (150mA threshold/50mA hold) with the possibility of monitoring and reset via other PXI interface channels, if the status of fault current via the monitoring system indicates a faulty current threshold is being exceeded.
The module is powered with a 8V - 24V DC input and has a current consumption of 750mA (+5V typical 400mA). The 40-480-221 is a 3U PXI single-slot module that is equipped with the common front panel 37-pin D-type connector interfacing signals from the module. All specifications follow PXI 2.2 standards. The 40-480-221 can be configured with a PXI, CompactPCI, or hybrid PXIe chassis. The 40-480-221 represents a powerful operational module that can be configured into many test systems for transportation electronics. The base software supports both VISA and kernel drivers, in addition to real-time operating systems support. The Pickering 40-480-221 module is a unique device that will create both simulated switch faults and effects of contamination when testing automotive control systems. The module is ideal for automotive system developers looking to design reliable systems under challenging automotive operational conditions.
