National Instruments 778510-01 Analog Output Device
The National Instruments 778510-01 (model PCI-6733) is an analog output board designed for use in applications that require the creation of multi-channel signals with high accuracy and speed. This PCI-based card provides eight independent analog output channels capable of producing up to 16 bits of resolution and sampling rates up to 1 MS/s per channel with a maximum ±10 V output range when using an optional external voltage reference. In addition to providing the user with eight TTL/CMOS I/O lines as 5 V digital inputs or outputs, the 778510-01 contains two counters/timers, each running at 20 MHz with 24-bit resolution, and offers both digital and analog triggers, allowing the user to synchronize multiple NI cards involved in acquiring data. Engineers utilize this card for their stimulus-response testing needs, to analyze acoustic distortion, and to simulate three-phase power. The part is an ideal tool where the user requires highly accurate waveform reproduction and/or the need exists to synchronize multiple output channels.
In terms of functional capabilities, the NI PCI-6733 serves as a replacement for several pieces of conventional laboratory instrumentation, including but not limited to standalone PID controllers, function generators, and low-speed arbitrary waveform generators. Each individual analog data point produced by the part is independently programmable; therefore, users can generate waveforms based upon common standards such as sine, square, and sawtooth waveforms or complex custom waveforms such as noise-modulated sinusoids with variable amplitudes and shapes. User-defined waveforms are created using a PC-based software application and then transferred to the 778510-01 via Direct Memory Access (DMA), thus allowing the user to take advantage of their computer's available system RAM to store and transfer large amounts of waveform data without degrading performance due to limitations in on-board memory.
If the user chooses to utilize the LabVIEW Real-Time Module with the PCI-6733, they will have access to real-time determinate control loop operation suitable for controlling complex systems. The use of the LabVIEW Real-Time Module enables users to easily implement standard control methodologies such as PID or develop more complex custom control methodologies. The 778510-01 is able to operate multiple high-speed control loops simultaneously, exceeding a sample rate of 20 kHz.
