The National Instruments 779136-02 (NI-9421) is an 8-channel C Series digital input module designed for monitoring industrial signals in CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems. It provides sinking digital inputs for 12 to 24 VDC signals and supports sampling rates of up to 10 kHz, making it suitable for applications that require fast detection of changes in industrial equipment and machinery. This version features a conformally coated PCB for additional protection against moisture, dust, and chemical contaminants in demanding industrial environments.
Each of the eight input channels accepts 12 to 24 VDC logic-level signals from devices such as industrial switches, proximity sensors, transducers, and other field equipment. As a sinking input module, the 779136-02 is intended for circuits in which the external device supplies current to the input. Individual channel LEDs provide a visual indication of the input state, making it easier to monitor connections and troubleshoot field wiring.
The module includes transient overvoltage protection rated at 2,300 Vrms, referenced to earth, and provides a minimum of 60 VDC isolation between each channel and earth. This isolation helps protect the connected controller from electrical disturbances and reduces the risk of ground-loop issues. The module uses a 25-pin D-sub connector for field connections and can be installed in compatible CompactDAQ or CompactRIO chassis through the C Series interface.
The 779136-02 is rated for operation from −40°C to +70°C, making it suitable for applications exposed to wide temperature variations. Typical uses include limit-switch monitoring, valve-position detection, machine condition monitoring, process control, factory automation, and equipment monitoring.
