The NI 777318-510 Counter Module accepts two types of encoder signal inputs: single-ended (TTL) and differential line driver. For single-ended inputs, connect a single terminal for each input signal. Differential inputs for index, Phase A, and Phase B signals are supported by the module. Users can adapt encoders with various phase relationships by altering the signals or connecting them to the inverting inputs as needed. If the index polarity is reversed, reverse the +Index and -Index signals on differential encoders. The -Index input can also be used on single-ended encoders. 

The 777318-510 is a versatile quadrature encoder input module for Compact FieldPoint and FieldPoint systems, used to directly measure position and velocity in motion control applications. These modules can connect to differential and single-ended quadrature encoders with inputs ranging from 5 to 30 VDC. They are commonly used in motion control applications alongside PWM-520 modules, RLY modules, PG-522 modules, or with an external serial motor controller. 

This module requires up to 1.2 W of power, which can limit the number of I/O modules connected to a single network interface module. I/O modules can be powered by up to 9 W from controllers and network interface modules. The 777318-510 has four independent 32-bit position counters and can accommodate encoders with various phase relationships by swapping the phase A and phase B signals.
