National Instruments GPIB-232CT-A GPIB Serial Controller

Featured with full GPIB controller capability, the NI GPIB-232CT-A (Part Numbers: 776668-01, 776668-02, 776668-03, 776668-04, 776668-05, 776668-06, 776899-01, 776899-31, 776667-01, 776667-02, 776667-03, 776667-04, 776667-05, 776667-06, 776900-01, and 776900-31) provides a PC with a serial port (RS232), a means of talking, listening, and controlling on the GPIB. Moreover, this device can be utilized for quickly interfacing peripherals and other measuring devices to the GPIB.

The National Instruments GPIB-232CT-A is offered in two AC versions (100-120 VAC, 220-240 VAC) and one DC version. For the DC version, an external power supply is delivered with the device. This model comes equipped with a NAT4882 controller chip. This chip enables the NI GPIB-232CT-A for complete IEEE 488.2 standard compatibility. For talking, listening, and controlling on the GPIB, the user can connect their computer`s serial port to the RS-232 port of this device.

The RS-232 serial port can be operated in either S mode or G mode. In its default configuration, the unit comes configured to run in S mode. However, users can change the serial port’s operating method through a DIP switch. In S mode, the attached computer acts as the controlling device. However, in G mode the GPIB-232CT-A is utilized to interface as an RS-232 device as a Listener/Talker.

Each GPIB-232CT-A device can be used with the NI-488.2 driver software- a comprehensive set of drivers and programs for transforming the Microsoft Windows-based PC into a GPIB controller with complete bus management and communication capability. This GPIB Serial Controller has all the logic and software required to implement the electrical and physical specifications of the RS-232 and IEEE 488.
