National Instruments GPIB-PCIII GPIB Interface Board
The GPIB-PCIII is an Interface Board designed for IBM personal computers and other compatible computers functioning with PC-DOS or MS-DOS. The manufacturer of the GPIB-PCIII interface is National Instruments. This interface belongs to the GPIB Interface Board family by NI, commonly referred to collectively as GPIB-PC. The NI GPIB-PCIII interface has the full functionality and compatibility of the IEEE-488 interface with ISA slots. The use of the GPIB interface has been further expended among other computer manufacturers after analyzing the capability of interface for computer-to-computer and other peripheral communications. This GPIB Interface Board is integrated for computer languages such as BASICA and QuickBASIC. The user, however, needs to buy an additional GPIB-PC distribution diskette containing the software if they are interested in a language other than the standard languages.
The NI GPIB-PCIII GPIB Interface Board has full functionality to act as a talker, listener, or controller. The role of the controller is to manage the GPIB communication in the GPIB-PCIII interface while the talker sends the data messages and one or more listeners receive those data messages. This GPIB Interface has 16 signal lines and 8 ground return or shield drain lines. The signal lines are split into three groups: 5 interface management lines, 8 data lines, and 3 handshake lines.
Connectivity for the NI GPIB-PCIII is possible with the use of a cable attached to 24-conductors integrated with a plug at one end and a receptacle at the other end. The data transfer rate for the GPIB-PCIII is more than 250 kilobytes per second.
