National Instruments 778993-02 LVDS Digital Waveform Generator/Analyzer
The National Instruments 778993-02 (PXI-6561) is a 16-channel digital waveform generator/analyzer designed for high-speed communication with electronic devices using LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling). The module provides 16 LVDS channels and supports both single data rate (SDR) and double data rate (DDR) operation, allowing users to configure the device according to the requirements of their application.
The 778993-02 features 16 Mb of onboard memory per channel for storing digital waveform patterns. In DDR mode, it can achieve data rates of up to 200 Mb/s with a maximum clock rate of 100 MHz. When operating in SDR mode, each channel can have individual direction control, allowing channels to be configured independently for signal generation or acquisition. This flexibility makes the module well suited to applications involving more complex stimulus and response testing.
The module provides several trigger options for controlling waveform generation and acquisition, including Start, Pause, Script, Advance, and Reference triggers. Trigger sources can include PFI lines, the PXI backplane, and software commands, giving users control over when digital patterns begin, pause, or advance during a test.
The 778993-02 also uses National Instruments' Synchronization and Memory Core (SMC) architecture to provide synchronization with other SMC-based instruments. This allows multiple devices to operate together with closely coordinated timing, which is useful when building test systems that combine digital and analog instrumentation. Its onboard memory, sequence capabilities, and synchronization functions make the module suitable for developing multichannel, low-skew test systems for high-pin-count digital devices.
The module is supported by the NI-HSDIO driver, which can be used with development environments such as LabVIEW, Microsoft Visual C/C++, and LabWindows/CVI. The NI Digital Waveform Editor can also be used to create and edit digital waveform patterns before they are loaded onto the hardware.
The 778993-02 is a single-slot PXI module and can be installed in compatible hybrid PXI slots. This makes it suitable for integration into existing PXI test systems without requiring a dedicated chassis or major changes to the existing hardware configuration.
