National Instruments 779199-03 PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis
The National Instruments 779199-03 (PXI-1050) is a PXI/SCXI combination chassis that integrates PXI instrumentation and SCXI signal conditioning in a single enclosure. It operates from a 220 VAC power source over an input frequency range of 47 to 63 Hz, making it suitable for standard AC power systems within that range.
The chassis provides a 10 MHz PXI_CLK10 reference clock for synchronizing modules installed in the PXI backplane. Slot-to-slot clock skew is limited to 250 ps, while the internal reference oscillator provides ±25 ppm accuracy and 5 ps RMS jitter over the 10 Hz to 1 MHz range. These timing characteristics support synchronized operation across multiple PXI modules.
External timing references can be connected through a rear-panel BNC connector or the J2 interface in Slot 2. The BNC input accepts sine or square wave signals from 200 mVpp to 5 Vpp with a 50 Ω load, while the Slot 2 interface supports 3.3 V and 5 V TTL signals. The backplane adds approximately 1 ps RMS of jitter to the reference signal.
The 779199-03 provides eight PXI module slots along with four integrated SCXI slots, allowing signal conditioning functions such as multiplexing, filtering, isolation, amplification, and switching to be incorporated into the same chassis. The system supports both local and remote PXI controllers and can accommodate a range of PXI measurement and I/O modules. Additional SCXI chassis can also be connected when more signal-conditioning capacity is required.
The chassis is designed for use in demanding test and measurement environments and can withstand functional shock levels of up to 30 g peak in an 11 ms half-sine pulse. It was tested to IEC 60068-2-27 and MIL-T-28800E requirements.
The 779199-03 is suitable for automated test, sensor measurement, industrial data acquisition, and other applications that require PXI instrumentation combined with integrated SCXI signal conditioning. Compatible NI software, including Measurement & Automation Explorer and LabVIEW, can be used for system configuration, measurement, and control.
