National Instruments 777978-02 Universal Motion Interface

The 777978-02, part of the UMI-7764 model series by National Instruments, is a versatile connectivity accessory designed for seamless integration with National Instruments' 7330, NI 7340, and NI 7350 series motion controllers. It is perfect for use in both industrial and laboratory settings because it allows up to four axes of independent or simultaneous control. This interface enables the connection of third-party stepper and servo drives (amplifiers) and facilitates the integration of feedback and digital I/O with National Instruments motion controllers.

The 777978-02 supports industry standard interfaces to provide wide compatibility. It manages step and direction, or clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) pulse inputs, for stepper systems. It takes an analog input of within ±10 V for servo systems. It is simpler to connect different drive systems with your motion controllers because to this broad compatibility.

Because each axis has its own encoder, limit switch, and amplifier/drive terminal block, the 777978-02 is made to make field wiring easier. Given that these terminal blocks are constructed in accordance with industry standards, wire installation can be completed quickly and effectively without the need for specialized tools. By using a single interface cable to connect to the motion controller, the Universal Motion Interface reduces cable clutter and any connection problems.

The 777978-02 is distinguished by its host bus monitor power interlock. This safety feature protects your equipment and guarantees operational safety by automatically turning off the drive if the host computer is turned off or if the interface cable is unplugged. For solid desktop use, the gadget is encased in a robust metal box with a hinged lid and rubber feet.

Each axis on the 777978-02 includes an encoder interface that supports quadrature, incremental inputs, with a differential input threshold of ±0.3 V and a single-ended input threshold compatible with TTL/CMOS levels. Signal integrity is ensured via a 10 μs RC time constant noise filter on the analog inputs, which are designed for signal pass-through.
