National Instruments GPIB-140B Bus Extender

The GPIB-140B (Part Number: 787723-01) from National Instruments is a Bus Extender made to extend the length of a cable for a GPIB device/system up to 1 km. Durable and reliable, the GPIB-140B safely extends the length of cables without compromising the GPIB device, and it does not require software modifications. The device utilizes a buffered transfer technique in order to securely transfer data at rates up to 1.1 or 2.8 MB/s. 

The GPIB-140B setup can be configured to allow multiple extensions in either a star or linear configuration. up to 1 km. Up to 13 additional devices can be supported by each extension. Including the extenders, this results in a total of 28 devices.

Two standard loads, AC and DC, are supported by the GPIB interface load of the GPIB-140B. The extender includes a transmission interface unit that is equipped with an optical transmitter and receiver components. It features ST-style optical cable connectors.

In terms of performance, the GPIB-140B bus extender is an excellent choice. It offers flexibility with maximum transfer rates, depending on the mode of operation used. When the GPIB-140B is in buffered mode with non-HS488, it can achieve a transfer rate of over 1.1 MBytes/s. With HS488 handshake, this rate increases to over 2.8 MBytes/s. When in unbuffered mode, the maximum transfer rate is over 200 kBytes/s. 

The GPIB-140B operates within an input voltage range of 9 V DC to 15 V DC, and it has a maximum power consumption of 3.0 W (250 mA @ 12 V). Designed for robust functionality even in extreme conditions, the GPIB-140B has an operating temperature that ranges from 0 °C to 55 °C  (32 °F to 131 °F).
