National Instruments PXI-PCI8336 MXI-4 Interface Kit

The National Instruments PXI-PCI8336 (Part Number: 778641-10) is an MXI-4 Interface Kit designed for PXI systems. This kit is used in scenarios where direct control of PXI systems is required through regular desktop PCs. The NI PXI-PCI8336 utilizes a high-bandwidth and secure MXI-4 link for communication. MXI-4 is a rare type of link that remains transparent to drivers and software applications. Thus, it is considered an ideal solution for controlling a PXI system through servers or desktop computers. MXI-4 is designed to work as a PCI-to-PCI bridge that achieves hardware and software transparency. MXI-4 is constructed by splitting the typical PCI-to-PCI bridge architecture into two halves. These two halves are connected by means of a 1.5 GB/s serial link. The device is equipped with 1 3U PXI system controller or peripheral slot.

In this MXI-4 Interface Kit, a PXI remote controller and a PCI controller are used. These two separate cards are interconnected through an optical fiber cable. Another variant of this kit is also available with copper connectivity. However, optical fiber links are much better as they enable you to go farther and with minimal signal losses. The NI PXI-PCI8336 is fully compatible with both 3.3 V and 5 V PCI slots. This kit includes 1 PCI-8336 board, 1 PXI-8336 board, and a 10 m fiber-optic cable. The PCI board is deployed in the PCI slot of the host computer and the PXI board is deployed in Slot 1 of a PXI chassis. All these parts are available for purchase separately in the market. The Ni device measures 3.9 x 6.3 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperatures ranges of 0 to 55 °C and –20 to 70 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 95% RH respectively, operating and non-operating random vibrations of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively – all at a frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz.
