National Instruments SHC68-C68-D4 Digital Cable
The SHC68-C68-D4 (Part Numbers: 781013-01, 196275-01, 781293-01, 152870-01, 132625-03) is a Digital Cable rated to operate at a maximum resistance of 1 ohm. This cable comes with a pair of male, 68-pin VHDCI connectors – one for back-end and the other for front-end connections. With this cable, you can achieve interconnection between various National Instruments accessories and NI 654x, 655x, 6535/6/7 digital instruments. The NI SHC68-C68-D4 is often used with the SMB-2163 Terminal Block and CB-2162 Connector Block. Moreover, this cable can be used with a broad range of digital modules for FlexRIO, high-speed instruments with serial connectivity, and signal generator modules for FlexRIO. The cable is shielded and doesn’t have twisted pairing.
This cable is available in various options under different part numbers. Part number 781013-01 has a length of 0.55 meters, while part number 196275-01 measures 1 meter in length. Part number 152870-01 has a length of 1 meter (with low leakage), part number 781293-01 measures up to 2 meters, and 132625-03 is 3 meters in length (with a lower DC resistance).
Since the SHC68-C68-D4 is a flexible cable, it can be used in a variety of custom test fixtures. The gauge of the wire utilized in the construction of this cable is 32 AWG; it can accommodate as many as 40 single-ended I/O channels. The maximum voltage of the cable measures ±30 VDC. The additional electrical specifications for the cable differ depending on which length variation is being discussed, with the exception of the characteristic impedance, which is 50 Ω ±10% across the board. The resistance of the Digital Cable measures 0.3 Ω, 0.5 Ω, and 1 Ω for the 0.55 m, 1 m, and 2 m cables respectively. Similarly, the capacitance is either 60 pF, 100 pF, or 200 pF depending on the length. The propagation delay is 2.7 ns for a length of 0.55 m, 4.9 ns for a 1 m cable, and 9.6 ns for a 2 m cable. The final electrical specification, the channel-to-channel skew, measures 50 ps for both 0.55 m and 1 m cables. For 2 m cables, the skew measures 75 ps.
