The PCI‑6542 (Part Numbers: 778989-02 and 778989-03) is a Digital Waveform Device manufactured by National Instruments. This versatile device is available with two onboard memory size choices, depending on the part number. 16 Mbit of onboard memory is available with part number 778989-02, whereas 64 Mbit is available with part number 778989-03. Using Synchronization and Memory Core (SMC) technology, the PCI-6542 allows instructions and waveforms to share onboard memory. Flexible and user-defined parameters include the maximum number of waveforms in memory, the number of script instructions, the number of samples (S) available for waveform storage, and the number of waveforms.

The NI Script Editor is incorporated on the NI-HSDIO DVD and is introduced when the user introduces the driver.
