Keysight E1420B High-Performance Universal Counter
The Keysight E1420B High-Performance Universal Counter is a C-size, 1-slot, fully programmable VXIbus module intended for accurate and adaptable measurement applications. With three input channels and a frequency range of DC to 200 MHz on Channel 1, 100 MHz on Channel 2, and up to 2.5 GHz on the optional Channel 3, this high-performance universal counter can handle up to three different input frequencies. Operating on Standardized Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), this message-based device guarantees simplified command and measurement responses.
The Keysight E1420B performs exceptionally well in circumstances requiring quick measurement cycles, making it perfect for automated test equipment (ATE) applications. It may sequence through several functions at a rate of up to 40 measurements per second, or it can perform up to 60 measurements of the same function per second. By permitting direct data sharing between the counter and a VXI device with shared RAM, the optional shared memory functionality dramatically increases measurement throughput and enables for even quicker performance—up to 160 measurements per second.
Numerous universal counter measurements, such as those for frequency, period, totalize, pulse width, time interval, and ratio, can be handled by the E1420B. It also offers AC/DC voltage measurements and rise/fall time evaluations. To provide versatility and accuracy across a range of testing circumstances, the device supports a number of input signal conditioning options, including manual x10 attenuation, AC/DC coupling, and configurable input impedance settings of 50 ohms or 1 MΩ.
Auxiliary features of the E1420B include the capacity to use an external timebase as a frequency reference and external arming, which may be configured using front panel BNC connectors or VXIbus trigger lines. Users can synchronize the counter with other pieces of equipment thanks to this external timebase input and output capability, which improves the overall precision of the system. In addition, the module provides 100 measurement gate averaging, which adds one more digit of resolution to all operations other than totalize.
