Keysight E1421A VXI Portable Mainframe
The Keysight E1421A is a C-sized, six-slot VXI portable mainframe that is perfect for rack-mount and portable applications. It has been designed to satisfy the needs of small, economical test setups. For applications requiring fewer slots than the 13-slot E1401A/B or E84XX series C-size mainframes, this mainframe provides a dependable option. The E1421A complies with the VXIbus Specification and has injector surface rails that work with the QUIC system for simple module insertion and extraction, which guarantees effective module handling and functionality.
The E1421A features an autoranging, power factor compensated power supply with a power input range of 100-240 VAC. It can operate in voltage ranges of 90 VAC to 264 VAC and frequencies of 47 Hz to 66 Hz. These configurations are not certified, despite the fact that it can work at 90 VDC to 250 VDC and 400 Hz. The back panel has a socket for an IEC 320 line cord that may be detached and a single 10A 250V line fuse. The front panel features an illuminated power button for convenience. A +5V standby power tap is also available on the back of the mainframe, enabling a maximum backplane input current of 6A.
In-depth protection mechanisms against overheating, overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-to-ground situations are also included with the E1421A. When the temperature outside rises beyond 60°C or when the temperature of any one of the individual outputs rises too high, the power supply automatically cuts off and restarts itself after cooling. Over-voltage protection has a nominal range of 115–135% of the rated output, and over-current protection has a range of 105–125% of the entire load, with the ability to restart automatically.
The E1421A features an integrated Pressurized Air Channel cooling system from Keysight, which guarantees uniform and clean airflow throughout all installed VXI modules. Using a fan-driven airflow that enters through the rear panel and leaves through the mainframe's left side, this system efficiently maintains the operating temperature. Similar to this, two fans control the cooling of the power supply.
