Keysight N5173B EXG X-Series Microwave Analog Signal Generator
Keysight’s N5173B is an analog microwave signal generator from the EXG X-Series, which offers a wide frequency range of 9 kHz up to 40 GHz (when using Option 540). This high-bandwidth capability allows for the testing of high bandwidth components like filters, amplifier's and RF receivers over commercial and military/aerospace bands. Besides its wideband capabilities the standard packaging also includes two adapters which enable users to quickly make their measurements within crowded test environments; one being a 2.4mm male-to-male connector and the other being a 2.4mm male to 2.9mm male connector.
The N5173B has excellent phase noise performance, having a single sideband phase noise of -118 dBc/Hz @ 1 GHz and a 20 kHz offset. This low phase noise will allow you to accurately measure the receiver selectivity and reciprocal mixing in receivers. The maximum output power of the N5173B is +19 dBm @ 20 GHz, and its harmonic content remains under -55 dBc, providing you clean outputs for testing amplifier linearity and filter skirts. The fast frequency switching capability of 600 µs allows for rapid multichannel or sweep testing. Additionally, the built-in OCXO reference provides a stability of better than ±5×10?¹? /day, allowing you to calibrate your system over time and use it remotely. The N5173B also contains several analog modulation formats such as AM, FM, PM, and Pulse. By including these formats into this instrument, you will have fewer external waveform sources required for your testing.
This signal generator is used for the parametric evaluation of various industrial automation and manufacturing test applications. Such uses include receiver blocking and local oscillator replacement. Its small 2U half rack form factor makes it ideal for conserving valuable production floor space. In addition, both LAN and USB interfaces provide easy integration into automated test equipment (ATE). Options can be easily added via software updates. If you have an RF/microwave production line looking for a cost-effective and high-throughput signal source that provides good tone quality, fast settling times and simple control of the output signal, then the N5173B is a practical solution for characterizing broadband components from development benches through to final verification stations.
