Keysight/Agilent E8462A 256-Channel High-Density Relay Multiplexer
The E8462A multiplexer is a single-slot register-based VXI module. It uses nonlatching armature relays to deliver a fast and highly reconfigurable high-point-count switching topology. The model can be configured into individual switching topologies for a wide range of automated test applications. The two-wire, three-wire, and four-wire measurement configurations are all natively supported within this single-slot module.
The E8462A delivers a typical thermal offset of ± 3 μV per channel in the 1-wire configuration. In a 2-wire configuration, the thermal offset per channel improves to a typical measured value of ± 1.5 μV. The typical closed channel resistance in 1 wire mode is less than 0.9 Ω for accurate low-level routing. These low offset and low resistance specifications enable high-accuracy DC measurements across all supported wiring configurations.
All relays in the high-density relay E8462A multiplexer are armature types with an open/close time of 5 ms. Under light loads of 1.0 V and 10 mA, the minimum relay life is 1 million switching operations. The relay life drops to a minimum of 100 K operations under rated full resistive load conditions at 60 VA. The minimum permissible load for reliable relay operation is defined as 10 mVDC and 10 μA.
The relay multiplexer defaults to an all-open relay state during both power-up and power-down for system safety. In the 256 x 1 (1 wire) configuration, the crosstalk isolation is rated at 70 dB at 10 kHz. At 100 kHz and 1 MHz, this configuration provides 53 dB and 33 dB of isolation, respectively. At 10 MHz, the 1-wire configuration maintains a crosstalk isolation level of 15 dB. Both two-wire configurations of the model achieve 85 dB of crosstalk isolation at 10 kHz.
The E8462A High Density Relay Multiplexer requires a forced airflow rate of 3.0 liters per second within the host VXI chassis. The maximum power dissipation per slot is rated at 30 W with a typical operating consumption of 10 W. A pressure differential of 0.1 mm H?O is required to sustain adequate thermal performance across the module.
